Fall 2016 Chhulemu Volunteer Service Treks Itinerary—Treks #5/6


October 28/November 9: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft) Most international flights arrive in Kathmandu by afternoon on day one. Our guides will meet you outside Customs at the airport and answer questions and brief you about the immediate arrangements. The trip leader will hold a short briefing in the hotel regarding trek arrangement and general orientation.

October 29/November 10: Fly to Phaplu (2461m/8075ft) and Trek to Taksindu (2931m/9617ft) Transfer from Hotel to Kathmandu Domestic Airport early in the morning where your guide will fly with you to Phaplu. It is a spectacular flight over the Kathmandu Valley and Himalayan range when the weather is clear. Upon arrival in Phaplu, you will meet with the rest of our staff and you will began our beautiful trek arriving at Taksindu in the evening for overnight stay at Taksindu Resort.

October 30/November 11: Chhulemu, Karma’s Village (2500m/8200ft) After walking about an hour, you will arrive in Chhulemu where HDF has been recently focusing on rebuilding homes. You will visit the school there and observe their classes. There will be opportunities to learn about local life, cultures and traditions first hand.

October30-November 4 Rebuilding Homes/November11-16 Building Monastery Toilet Building You guide will form work groups to assist HDF’s local engineer, carpenters, masons, SMA guides and homeowners rebuilding and repairing earthquake damaged homes/with same type of assistance you will assist building a multi-stall EcoSan toilet building.

November 5/November 17: Trek to Phaplu You trek back to Phaplu airport and stay overnight in a teahouse. Evening will be goodbye to SMA staff.

November 6/November 18: Phaplu to Kathmandu Weather permitting you will fly to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Here you will have the evening to relax, send your laundry, shopping, and dining.

November 7/November 19: Sightseeing in Kathmandu A day of siteseeing , you will experience the largest Buddhist Stupa, Baudhanath, and the Monkey Temple at Shaymbunat. Many monkeys inhabit this area and are entertaining to observe. A beautiful view of the city of Kathmandu awaits you at the top.

November8/ November 20: Departure flight from Kathmandu Transfer to International airport for departure

Cost is $2300 per trekker. This covers all costs in country, including transfers, transportation in Kathmandu, hotel, in-country airfare, guides, porters, all meals*. Not included are expenses for required trip health insurance, personal items, or gratuities. Of the total, $500 is a tax deductible donation to Himalayan Development Foundation.

*except for lunches and dinners in Kathmandu.
